Being photographed can be an intimidating experience. If you are feeling a bit apprehensive about the photography on your day, it’s totally normal for either the bride or groom (or both!) not to be a fan of photos… I think about 70% of the people I work with are reluctant subjects, and I get that, I’m not a professional model either! Don't worry I've got your back.

From our first communications to the day you receive your photos, I'm here to support you plan a day that runs smoothly, and ensures that you get the beautiful images you’ve dreamed of. Yes I can take great photos. But I'm also a director, a Wedding planner, a listening ear. Great Wedding days don't happen by accident, so I'll help guide you with advice from photographing 300 + Weddings over 18 years. By the time we get to the big day you'll feel confident that we've got the Wedding photos nailed.

Choosing your Wedding photographer

I know I’m biased, but I believe one of the most important decisions you make when planning your Wedding is choosing your photographer.

When people hear I’m a photographer they love to talk about their own experiences, and one of the most common things that I hear from couples is their big regrets about their Wedding photos, it always surprises and saddens me.

So to prevent the same thing from happening to you, here are a few things I highly recommend considering, when making your decision on which photographer to choose to capture your day.

Not because I want you to pick me (although I do! 📷 ) but because I truly don’t want you to be one of those couples that is not 150% happy with the Wedding Photography from your day.

So here are my top tips to choosing your wedding photographer:

Make sure you check out a full wedding so you get a sense of what to expect from a day’s coverage. Anyone can post a single great image or even construct a blogpost with the highlights, but seeing a full wedding will give you a much better idea of the photographer's priorities, the style they like to shoot in etc.

Experience is super important! Even though I still love many of the images I made as a new photographer, I just couldn’t add as much value to a wedding day as I do now, having photographed hundreds of weddings. Seeing all sorts of unexpected situations occur has made me more adaptable when things don’t go as planned (weather, timeline etc). I often say that the role of photographer is just as much decision making as capturing images.

Ask about the role your photographer will play with helping prep for your day. We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t and and its our job to help you with your runsheet and planning to help you have the most successful day possible.

And the best for last…make sure your personalities are a good fit! This makes such a difference as you’ll be spending A LOT of time together! I spend more time on the Wedding day with the bride than the groom does. So being a good match is important!

Ruth is a talented photographer with a great personality! She was super helpful throughout the entire process!! Ruth got together with us to help us with the timeline of the day, as well as sending samples of how to make the group photos smooth.

Ruth made us feel comfortable on the day, and we had so much fun during our photo session and it felt so easy, so natural! We have so many beautiful photos now that we can't decide which ones to print!
